Idea behind the work: The debacle at this year’s Oscar ceremony reinforced my belief that we really don’t need celebrities to stand for us anymore. I had been toying with this idea for some time prior, having been jarred by Dave Hickey saying that 60’s cinema was when we started to let celebrities stand for us, and when Warhol was in full glamour and fame mode. It occurred to me that we are more than capable of standing for ourselves now, especially with the advancement in new technologies, and the ability to get our voices heard. Celebrity Crisis? – It seems real enough to me.
